Josh Birkholz is the CEO of BWF, an international fundraising company providing consulting, services, and technology to leading nonprofits, universities, and healthcare institutions. Josh is a leader in big philanthropy and an innovator in the business of fundraising. In his 25+ years in the charitable sector, Josh has redefined how we look at modern program design, fundraising in a challenging economy, donor engagement, and high net-worth giving. He is widely regarded as a trailblazer in 21st-century development strategies. He wrote the much sought-after book Fundraising Analytics: Using Data to Guide Strategy (Wiley, 2008) and co-authored the newly released Benefactors: Why Some Fundraising Professionals Always Succeed (Wiley, 2022). Josh is also a contributor to the books A Kaleidoscope of Prospect Development and Return on Character.

He is the Chair of the Board at the Giving USA Foundation and an instructor at the Rice University Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership. He earned the Crystal Apple Award for Teaching Excellence from CASE. Moreover, he received the prestigious Apra Visionary award for his innovation in applying data science to fundraising.
