The journey to becoming an effective major gift officer can be full of highs and lows as most fundraisers learn through experience rather than formal instruction. Join us for a conversation with Tawanda Lewis Owsley, Senior Vice President/Chief Development and Marketing Officer of Hosparus Health. Tawanda will draw from years of nonprofit experience in the Louisville and Lexington markets to share stories and tips she’s learned throughout her career. This interactive program will allow for audience questions and discussion on the topics facing major gift fundraisers today.

TAWANDA OWSLEY

Sr. VP/ Chief Development Officer and Chief Marketing Officer

Tawanda Owsley is a non-profit fundraising executive with more than 20 years of experience and proven results. She currently serves as the Senior Vice President/Chief Development and Marketing Officer for Hosparus Health, which is the largest non-profit in Louisville, Kentucky. . Most recently Tawanda has assumed leadership over the marketing department overseeing the Hosparus Health brand and strategic messaging.

Prior to joining Hosparus Health, Tawanda served as the Executive Director at the American Red Cross Bluegrass Chapter in Lexington, KY. These positions, combined with her experiences at the University of Kentucky, Norton Healthcare, CHI Saint Joseph, Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center, and Metro United Way, provide Tawanda with a wide range of nonprofit leadership and philanthropic expertise.

Tawanda earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Louisville and a Master’s in Business Communication from Spalding University. In addition to fundraising and marketing, Tawanda excels at strategic planning, public speaking, leadership development, board development and problem solving. Past Board Involvement includes Transit Authority of River City (TARC), Greater Louisville Inc, Leadership Louisville Center, Louisville Urban League, Lexington Children’s Theatre, Commerce Lexington, Lexington Transit Authority. Tawanda past recognition includes Business First Enterprising Women, Distinguished Leader in Leadership Lexington, Top 40 under 40 recognition, graduate of Leadership Louisville’s Bingham Fellows.

Currently Tawanda serves on the board of TARC, LHOME, and Family Scholar House. She lives in Louisville with her husband Dr. Adarrell Owsley and two children Raven and Ayden.
